Steam Console Trade-In Deal
Steam Pulls a Fast One: Trade in Console Games for Extra PC Gaming Credit
By Dan Stapleton | Jul 14, 2012
It may be a trap, but that's some sweet sweet bait.
I had a feeling something like this might be coming since Steam started selling physical gift cards in US GameStop stores: now through July 23rd, if you trade in a game for credit, you'll get 30% more money if you transfer that credit to your Steam Wallet.
This is extremely crafty of Valve. It's an invitation for console gamers to trade in their games for money that can only be spent to purchase PC games, thus creating new PC gamers. But beware: it's also kind of a trap. Gamers who are in the habit of trading their old games to buy new ones would find themselves at a dead end when they finish playing the Steam game they bought with this money, since it'll be tied to their Steam accounts and not resellable. The constant cycle of trading in the old for the new would finally be broken.
What do you think? Would you sell a sellable game for money to buy one you can't sell? Also, with today's 50% off Skyrim sale, today might be an excellent day to tell your friends to trade in their console copies for a moddable PC version.

Another hustle from Steam... no thanks...
Never been a fan of Steam and their practices. If you buy a game from steam, its yours forever. You can't trade it, you can't sell it, or let anyone borrow it.
It's funny too.. People shout about Origin and other companies practices and hell they got the idea from Steam. But let's be ignorant and praise Steam for all their monopoly strategies they use.
Ignorance is bliss..

Years ago maybe but nowadays, there's that pesky thing called a registration code that must be entered. Once its registered to an individual, that's it. So borrowing is out of the question - so is re-sale and trade. Activision, EA and all the major publishers are busy discouraging and finally eliminating trading, selling or loaning games out. Or, haven't you noticed?
Oh wait, you're trolling!! I'm sorry.... carry on.

They say "Imitation is the highest form of flattery"... I guess Elite, Origin and the rest of the "copycats" regard Steam in the highest of esteem.
Odd, it appears blissful ignorance is only from one direction......

My point is, Steam was the FIRST to do this. BEFORE EA and Activision.
Maybe you didn't notice

I don't know what EA and Activision thinks of Steam. But if Steam is hustling the consumer with dealios and so on, why do we not blast them like we do EA and Activision. Why blame EA and Activision for trying to imitate them. If Steam can make money like that, why can't they.
Unless you have a specific agenda to put down EA and Activision no matter what the news is. I guess spin it any way you want. Carry on....

Didn't notice? Where do you come up with that nonsense? Steam might be the forst..... but I'll bet they are not the last. Your point is baseless. Nice try - no cigar.
Besides, EA and Activision pioneered the user hustle with their "pre-order our new version and we'll grant you beta access". That was long before Steam ever offered Steam Account deals through a brick and mortar outlet.

Speaking of "spin" - - you really shouldn't attempt such as you make only feeble attempts at masking personal attacks in a spin-like appearance. Not good. Do it again and you'll enjoy a vacation. We present the news and make appropriate comments and right away you make an issue of it and take it personal. Offhanded intimidation is not your forte. This will be your only warning.
In the future, please stick to the issues and leave personalities and emotion out.
