Obama signs order outlining emergency Internet control

by Dara Kerr - July 10, 2012 9:43 PM PDT

A new executive order addresses how the country deals with the Internet during natural disasters and security emergencies, but it also puts a lot of power in the government's hands.

President Barack Obama signed an executive order last week that could give the U.S. government control over the Internet.

With the wordy title "Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions," this order was designed to empower certain governmental agencies with control over telecommunications and the Web during natural disasters and security emergencies.

Here's the rationale behind the order:
The Federal Government must have the ability to communicate at all times and under all circumstances to carry out its most critical and time sensitive missions. Survivable, resilient, enduring, and effective communications, both domestic and international, are essential to enable the executive branch to communicate within itself and with: the legislative and judicial branches; State, local, territorial, and tribal governments; private sector entities; and the public, allies, and other nations. Such communications must be possible under all circumstances to ensure national security, effectively manage emergencies, and improve national resilience.
According to The Verge, critics of the order are concerned with Section 5.2, which is a lengthy part outlining how telecommunications and the Internet are controlled. It states that the Secretary of Homeland Security will "oversee the development, testing, implementation, and sustainment" of national security and emergency preparedness measures on all systems, including private "non-military communications networks." According to The Verge, critics say this gives Obama the on/off switch to the Web.

Presidential powers over the Internet and telecommunications were laid out in a U.S. Senate bill in 2009, which proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet. But that legislation was not included in the Cybersecurity Act of 2012 earlier this year.

After being published by the Federal Register, executive orders take 30 days to become law. However, the president can amend, withdraw, or issue an overriding order at any time.

Ed Note;
I knew this was coming.... I didn't know when or how severe.

After observing the results of "instant" communications via the 'Net in other countries... Washington's politicians knew they were in trouble if they went too far with their edicts and legislative dictates.

The result is the President has given himself the power to turn off the Web, while citing National Emergencies, thus silencing the Public in the USA.
A sad day indeed. Government's "National Emergency" may not necessarily be the same as the public's. Seems a great deal more was learned from Nazi Germany than just superior technology.
A revelation whose magnitude is unimaginably huge as far as "out of control government" is concerned.
Note this especially, "ensure national security, effectively manage emergencies, and improve national resilience." That translates to;
  • Internet Blackout
  • maintain power
  • censor the 'Net
  • stifle and control the people by force
  • quietly incarcerate outspoken Gov't critics
  • quietly disarm the general public
We are in for a bad time with this current Administration. Obama got a taste of power - He and His Cabinet are drunk with power. It would not surprise me if Obama postponed or cancelled the Elections.

Just another grievous reason to dump the Democrats and Obama.

Yup, knew this was coming. More and more of the sheeple are waking up and alt news is where now, yeah, the internet.

Take a look in the foreign countries that we have dealt with and what they did to stop real true news from spreading to the likes of Facebook, Twitter and other alt news outlets.

Spain, Greece, Libya, Iran and other foreign countries have turned off the internet to stop the flow of true information.

As recent events here in California with the Bart Transportation System did when they shut down phone service so that the real news on that Bart cop murder incident. That's when that Bart cop shot and killed a unarmed suspect who just happened to be in handcuffs and lying face down on the Bart terminal platform. Yea Bart trying to cover it up.

Its just going to get worse, all the pieces will be put in place then one day you will see troops, tanks and even more helicopters in the air.

Now lets see what happens on the 28th of this month with that UN gun control treaty. Lets see if the "Prez" signs it because if he does then we have lost the 2nd amendment and we must turn over our guns to the UN. Read up on this issue.

The gov must keep us in the dark (internet info) and totally unarm us before they do the final clamp down.

Just so you people know the dollar is in deep deep deep trouble, good chance this year we just might see it lose its world reserve currency status. If not this year, then in 2013.
