Rumor:

Battlefield 1943: Pacific Appearing At NY Comic Con (http://kotaku.com/5146703/rumor-battlefield-1943-pacific-appearing-at-ny-comic-con)

By Michael McWhertor, 5:40 PM on Wed Feb 4 2009

http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/kotaku/2009/02/battlefield_1943_pacific_01.jpgLooks like EA may be bringing the Battlefield series back to World War II, as listings ó and a supposed announcement ó for Battlefield 1943: Pacific (http://kotaku.com/tag/battlefield-1943%7c-pacific/) indicate a New York Comic Con showing.

Talk of another Battlefield title due in 2009 has been swirling on the on the official EA forums (http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread.jspa?threadID=483643&start=165&tstart=0), with users rooting out details of the unannounced game on a pair of sites, one being the official New York Comic Con schedule.

According to Electronic Arts' schedule at the official NYCC web site, Battlefield 1943: Pacific (http://kotaku.com/tag/battlefield-1943%7c-pacific/) post cards will be handed out at the show. Yes, post cards. That listing has recently been removed, but is available via Google Cache here (http://209.85.173.132/search?q=cache:dfAHvdllS98J:www.nycomiccon.com/app/PrintFriendly.cfm%3FLinkID%3D29733%26moduleID%3D25 23%26appname%3D100453+%22battlefield+1943+pacific% 22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=7&gl=us&client=firefox-a). Whether it was removed because someone at EA or DICE had a fit over its stealth reveal or whether the publisher has decided to push the game's official announcement back, we frankly don't know.

Alongside that, French gaming site JeuxActu writes that the game has already officially been announced, listing the PlayStation 3 (http://kotaku.com/tag/playstation-3/) and Xbox 360 (http://kotaku.com/tag/xbox-360/) as release platforms. As far as we can tell, EA has yet to announce the game, though it did confirm the existence of Battlefield Bad Company 2 (http://kotaku.com/5145839/more-battlefield-bad-company-on-the-way) for a 2010 release and DICE was rumored to have one of its announcements spoiled (http://kotaku.com/5144971/snow-day-spoils-new-battlefield-army-of-two-sequel-announcements) this week.

Thanks to Ben for the detective work and heads up!

YES!

Here's more ....

Battlefield 1943 is now in 2009

http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/battle2.jpg

Having been bombarded with a duo of Battlefield news (read: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is in the works and Battlefield Heroes is aiming to release this quarter), yet more news of DICEís popular franchise seemed an unlikely occurrence. Yet low probabilities be damned, because another entry to the nodal-point-capturing shmup* has been announced.

Check out the trailer, after the jump.

DICE has decided to bring a World War II Battlefield game to XBLA, PSN and PC this summer. Currently, three maps have been named and outed, so players can look forward to inserting high velocity lead pellets into their friends while trampling around Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. How many players you ask? No fewer than 24 Iíll have you know.

The interesting thing about Battlefield 1943 is that itís built using the same engine as Bad Company, so graphics should not be an issue here and if DICE get the price point right (800 would be irresistibly cheap, but 1200 or even 1600 seems more likely), then I can see this game selling a lot of copies. But if itís too successful then why would people bother with the more expensive Bad Company 2 later in the year?

I just watched the gameplay video for the 5th time.......I hear the death bell tolling for COD.....yes you are reading this correctly.

For years I've remained loyal to COD, in times of darkness I've been optimistic, but for me after seeing this......CoD5 patch or no patch I'll be shifting to Battlefield 1943 on its release. I've watched CoD turn into something that tho it has potential that potential is not being encouraged, no rather its being stifled.

We'll see what happens I guess.

Battlefield 1943 website: http://www.battlefield1943.com/

From the Battlefield 1943 website:

Soldiers, it's time to do your part in the action packed battles of the World War II Pacific campaign! Pick your path - be it as a rifleman crawling the trenches, a steel fisted tank commander, or ace fighter pilot dog fighting to protect the skies. Play as a lone wolf or with your friends, coordinating to turn the tide of battle, whatever you choose, you get to enjoy the thrill of a fully featured online shooter with the unique Battlefield sandbox experience.

Battlefield 1943 will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network and on PC for download. This give players access to the famous action packed Battlefield gameplay quicker and easier than it's ever been. Play as the US Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy on match-made servers for optimal challenge, as you gain ranks and awards. Battlefield 1943 is your own version of one of the most famous campaigns in the history of the world!

By Land, Sea & Air!
Unleash wide destruction with Bombing Raids, Tanks, or Fighter Planes launched from Aircraft Carriers and enjoy one of the best experiences in any multiplayer game to-date.

Varied Locations & Up to 24 Players
Play with 24 players online in three beautiful and destructible locations from the Pacific theatre. Whether you choose Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima or the classic Wake Island, you'll experience the best balance of infantry combat complemented by land, sea and air vehicles.

Frostbite-Enabled Destruction
Watch the beautiful Pacific Islands quickly turn into scarred battlefields as destruction rains upon you and your fellow soldiers as you fight to win the battle!

Through the Gun Experience
Use classic and iconic World War II infantry weapons with excellent feel to defeat your foes. Hit 'em hard from afar through your sniper scope or use explosives or melee weapons like bayonets to make it really up close and personal.

Frostbite looks nice but 3 maps, 24 players and "match-made servers", it sounds like the Xbox server set up. :whaa1:

looks very nice indeed, but the "match-made servers" worries me a bit too.
hoping it's good though.

Trailer looks promising, but sadly reminds me of WaW trailer, and we know how that turned out for MP. The number of maps does not bother me, as both "Iwo" (8 square miles) and the "Canal" (2,500 square miles) were long drawn out battles (6 months for the Canal and 1 month for Iwo) on relatively large battlefields considering they were Pacific Islands, along with the smaller Wake Island (3 square miles and the battle lasted a little less than a month) have potential and if done properly there could be multiple layers to each map. But lets wait and see what EA comes up with, there is always hope that this may be the one we been waiting for quite a while:wink2:

Sounds like Console Setup alright. I doubt they would come to PC with that. Battlefield series is known for the large servers on PC so expect 64 players. Any less and its not a true Battlefield !

Seems like I'll be going for BF then ;-). Played 2145 for half a year and it was pretty good! Community management can only be better then CoD, lol.

I've had all the BF series including add on packs

It is costly to run a bf server due to the fees that go to ea

an gsp will tell u that

But its one of those that id happy to chip into cos what ever people say i never felt let down by bf

Just dont ask me about the ROE because and other people that claim to sort out stat padders etc, i've written about the truth about them

and the current roe equivilent are far worse, with pb bans removals.

After COD2 got boring (that was quick) my ex-Clan started playing BF2. We did so for almost 2 years and i must say that it was a lot of fun. I used to really like the way you could do real Squad base game or go lone-wolf and decide on what class to pick.

I personnaly loved the sniping in it. Good simple weapons with an awesome bulletdrop makes it for me one of the most enjoyable Sniping online game ever.

Here's what my FAV activity was back then on BF2, sniper ambush :wink1:

Airborn man that was a bad joke was it not

I'm usually positive about bf series,
dont get me wrong i have my grumbles, such as bf2 never seemed to be as good as desert combat mod for 1942

The planes in bf2 were stupid

But the tanks/helos and infrantry modes were top

No, never had issues with EA while playing/experiencing BF2 - The opposite, in the 2 years we got a couple of major patches, 2-3 expansions also.

The main problem was Stats-padding and cheaters but on well admin'd servers that wasn't a problem.

Also, be prepared ..... a NEW PATCH (1.5) is being released in the coming weeks for Battlefield 2!!!!

Now, thats what i call support!

More on the Future for BF2 and the new BF1943 on TGN (http://www.totalgamingnetwork.com/page.php?do=dicevisit)

Extract:

Q: Will 2009 be a good year for the Battlefield fans?

A: Definitely. Its going to be an awesome year.

When I thought the interview was done I unexpectedly found out that DICE had a bomb to drop on me. I was taken to the previously mentioned LAN gaming room where we started up Battlefield 2. A new map will be released with the Battlefield 2 1.5 patch. Also, the same map (albeit in a slightly different context) will be released for Battlefield 2142 in the coming 1.51 patch. Although DICE currently is unable to release the name of the map, (the old name was recently leaked but has been changed) I was allowed to spend 30 minutes playing and taking screenshots of both the BF2 and 2142 versions.

I just wish they will make a full BF2 sequel rather than what seems to be a console port. multiplayer has taken a backwards step from 64 to 24 players.

Also it seems as if they've merged Battlefield Heroes and the regular Battlefield series, it's a little cartoony.
