Berlin is in its death throes. Soviet forces are quickly advancing on the city centre, reducing the Third Reich to a strip of land no more than 15 kilometers in length and three kilometers wide at its narrowest point. Soviet troops are closing in on the Reichskanzlei and on their ultimate goal: the Reichstag. But between them and their objective are fanatical SS defenders, members of the 11.SS 'Nordland' division. The 'Nordland' occupies the portion of the city to the west of the River Spree and extends in to the Königsplatz. They are pitted against the 150th Rifle Division of the Third Shock Army, which has been tasked with seizing the last obstacle between the Red Army and the Reichstag: the Moltke Bridge.

The map will feature the battle for the city of Berlin in the last days of the war. Players will fight through the streets and ruins of the Reich capital, being made to experience the ferocity of combined arms in an urban environment. The Soviets will need to attack along the long Berlin streets, taking cover in the rubble, inside of buildings, or behind advancing Russian tanks. However, many of the buildings featured in the map are open up to the second or third stories, so advancing Soviet tanks must be wary of German tank hunters hiding in what seems like an infinite amount of open windows, relying on their own infantry to storm the buildings and take on the fight in bitter close quarters combat, taking the fight floor by floor, and room by room.

In regard to loadouts, one can expect the following:

x2 MG
x4 Assault
x1 Panzerjaeger
x1 Gruppenfuhrer
x2 Semi Auto
Unlimited Riflemen

x2 MG
x7 Assault
x1 Saper
x2 Semi Auto
x1 Squad Leader
x1 Tank Commander
x3 Tank Crew
Unlimited Riflemen

Take care to note that in these loadouts there are NO snipers, nor will there ever be. German long range support will be in the form of modded MG42s, and Russian long range support should be in the form of tanks and MGs set up in windows or along the streets.

Aside from that, I'm sure you want to see screenshots. Well I try not to be one to disappoint, so here they are:

But while those show you the mostly urban part of the battle, I myself am personally quite fond of the screenshots of the finale: the Battle for the Moltke Bridge.

And in the distance one can see the Lehrter Bahnhof, which I took great care to model properly.

Other Considerations
-The map was started in October after acquiring permission from FlashPanHunter to create a map focusing on the Moltke Bridge. While that was my original intent, something in my yearned for an "epic" map, and hence Kriegstadt was born. However, expect an RO-MoltkeBridge to follow Kriegstadt.

-The map will make use of a variety of custom content, such as:
SS Uniforms and Camo
Improved MG42s (finally, they will be feared!)
Late war Russian M43-style uniforms
Russian Greatcoats!
Pantherturm Static Emplacements
88mm PaK 43/41 guns, courtesy of Darkest Hour: Normandy 1944.

I hope to bring to the RO community a map which should provide tactical gameplay and promote teamwork in order to accomplish objectives on either side. Ever since my days as a Call of Duty mapper, I have wanted to bring to players the experience of urban warfare at its grittiest and most brutal, and I hope that RO-Kriegstadt does just that. With the map featuring support for up to 50 players, you can expect a map that should truly make Red Orchestra shine, and immerse the player in the brutality that was the Battle of Berlin.

Yes it absolutely does.... I only hope that since its taking place in the waning weeks/months of WW2, it isn't decidedly biased. Hobo is a good mapper though, and I expect he'll keep it balanced and make gameplay the number one consideration.

It does look good. :)

I noticed Keystone already carrying on about weapons loadouts.... so I posted this;

I've never head about team that had only stg44. Even if it's true it was probably that onliest unit. In late of war in german forces still mp40 was more often than stg44. In RO there is possibility to choose mp40 or stg 44 in assault troop role and it's obvious that almost everybody will choose stg44 so it should be seperated in another role. ...<snip>

33. Waffen-Grenadier Division der SS "Charlemagne" (Pomerania, 80% losses, and Berlin battle) Not a single unit but a series of succeeding French volunteer units that fought in the German Army and later the Waffen-SS. The first unit was the LVF, or "Legion des Volontaires Français," followed by "La Legion Tricolore", which existed for just 6 months in 1942. By late 1943, the remaining French volunteers were inducted into the Waffen-SS Französische SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Regiment, later upgraded to the 8. Französiche SS-Freiwilligen Sturmbrigade. Though upgraded to divisional status in February 1945, this unit of French volunteers was rather understrength. They fought against the soviets from October 1944 to May 1945. 80% of the division had been destroyed in Pomerania, sacrificed in Körlin to allow other German units to retreat and they already had proven their Panzerknackers ability. The division had no single tank or armored car ... very few artillery (few medium mortars, two 150 mm howitzers and six 75 mm howitzers only), a handful of Pak38 and Pak40 and several 37 mm Flak guns. After Pomerania the unit is rebuilding in Neusterlitz and reaches about 1000 men. Due to the lack of trucks only about 400 men reached Berlin, and that just while Russians were closing the encirclement around them. The "Sturmbataillon" sent to Berlin was equipped at 80% with StG 44, often two MG42 per squad, many Panzerfäuste, Panzerschrecks and handgrenades. They were organized in 5 "companies" :
- Kampfschule (Weber)
- Company Michel
- Company Rostand
- Company Olliver
- Company Labourdette
They were among the very last defenders of Berlin with remnants of the Nordland division. These volunteers destroyed officially 62 Russian tanks with Panzerfäuste in 1 week. At least 20 eiserne Kreuze and 4 Ritterkreuze had been earned in Berlin.

Admittedly, this map's preview has created quite a stir.. It does look good thus far and certainly the proof of just how good will be in the balanced gameplay it offers.

I honestly look forward to this map's release.
