EA Bans Hundreds of Battlefield 3 Cheaters

By Nick Winter | Nov 12, 2011

Hax, beware!

In a perfect world, online gaming would be a gentlemanly sport: people would be polite to one another, there would be no such thing as "rage quits", and players would never cheat, lest they dishonor their handle name and bring eternal shame upon the entire community. Of course, this isn't a perfect world, and every FPS has its filthy contingent of cheating scum. EA has issued a warning to those who might be thinking of exploiting Battlefield 3's glitches: you will be banned.

In fact, the mega-publisher recently tweeted (https://twitter.com/#%21/Battlefield/status/135079725499559938) that it has already banned hundreds of BF3 (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/battlefield-3/index.html) cheaters across all platforms, and will continue to watch out for more of the slimy vermin in the future:"We've banned hundreds of hackers this week alone, and we are determined to punish the players who play without integrity.

A patch is just around the corner, and we will continue to ban cheaters. We take it seriously.

That is our attitude here at Battlefield. We have zero tolerance for cheating players and are banning more all of the time."What hacks were these guys exploiting? BF3 Blog (http://bf3blog.com/2011/11/hundreds-of-battlefield-3-players-banned-over-cheating/) reports that some players have been using a certain glitch to rack up tens of thousands of points in a single game as an engineer. And no, I won't be explaining how you can do it too.

In other BF3 news, DICE's Alan Kertz has announced (https://twitter.com/#%21/Demize99/status/133891163617898497) that the game's tactical flashlights will be getting nerfed in an upcoming patch (that's geek speak for "made less powerful"). The flashlights are an upgrade attachment for some weapons, and currently have the ability to blind opponents up to 10 meters away. The intensity of the flashlights will be significantly lessened, as the following screens demonstrate:

Spy Guy says: Good to see EA and DICE continuing to tweak the game... because we all hate aimbots ruining our multiplayer experience. Have any of you run into cheaters online? And would you like to see any other weapons nerfed? The mortar, perhaps?
